NEWS PRESS RELEASE 26 AUGUST 2026

Sevren, a European AI lab, launches with promising results from a novel, compute-efficient technology

Sevren develops open-source AI technologies. Its first technologies, HEIMR and Faberon, reduce the computing power required to build and run advanced AI models for demanding use cases. Built on research developed at the Danish fintech Monthio and backed by senior figures from Danish industry and international finance and technology, the lab focuses on advancing the next generation of sovereign AI infrastructure with significantly improved compute efficiency.

Sevren today launched as a European AI lab developing efficient open-source AI technologies and open recipe foundation models. Building on years of applied AI research at Danish fintech Monthio, Sevren is focused on reducing the computational resources required to run advanced AI models while maintaining high quality.

The lab sets out with two technologies. The first core innovation is HEIMR, which is an alternative to softmax attention. HEIMR is a novel, natively sparse attention architecture that enables AI models to achieve the same results while requiring less computation and memory, or alternatively run the same models on an edge device, both with very long context.

The engine driving new discoveries is Faberon, Sevren's controlled RSI (recursive self-improvement) research and optimization engine, built to enable a cooperative environment that strongly supports the European open-source strategy.

Faberon is designed to support intelligent sharing of R&D results and methods, and also serves to remedy the strategic disadvantage of the limited resources of European sovereign datacenters.

Faberon forms the foundation for Sevren's open-source R&D and its approach to building open recipes and highly efficient sovereign AI.

"Sevren grew out of years of building AI for real-world financial applications at Monthio. As we pushed the boundaries of what AI could do, for example with our demand for very long context lengths, we realized our learnings extended far beyond financial services. Sevren allows us to focus on developing the technologies behind the next generation of efficient AI while continuing to share our work openly with the wider community."

Mads Aarup Pedersen, Founder and CEO of Monthio and Sevren

In internal tests performed on DCAI's Gefion supercomputer, rebuilding open-weight models has improved compute efficiency significantly, while maintaining the same output quality. The promising results also extend to other domains such as image recognition. Since the early phase, the results have been extensively analyzed in cooperation with external experts, among others, Akhil Arora, assistant professor at Aarhus University.

Sevren is supported by an experienced group of founders, operators and investors from technology, finance and industry, including Jacob Aarup-Andersen, CEO of Carlsberg; Kim Baroudy, McKinsey Global Head of Technology and AI; Peter Hermann, Partner at Goldman Sachs; Klaus Holse, former executive at SimCorp and Microsoft Europe; Rikke Kjær Nielsen, Partner at EQT Partners; and Mads Aarup Pedersen, Founder and CEO of Monthio and Sevren, who share the company's vision for European open source AI.

Sevren will operate as an independent AI lab while maintaining close ties with Monthio, where its research originated. Launching Sevren allows Monthio to continue focusing on being the Financial Intelligence Layer for modern retail banking, while allowing Sevren to develop open source AI technologies with applications far beyond financial services.

Sevren's ambition is to develop foundational AI technologies that make advanced AI significantly more efficient while helping advance the wider AI ecosystem through open collaboration.
